Scott Barker is a key figure at Barker Trailers, where he serves as the Industry Engagement Manager and has previously held the role of Managing Director. As the son of 2 of the company's founders, Arthur and Helen Barker, Scott continues to uphold the family legacy. Scott's father was at the helm from the company’s inception in 1974 until his passing in 2006, while his mother played a vital role in managing the business’s financials during its formative years.

Scott's career journey at Barker Trailers began at the young age of 16, when he started as an apprentice Structural Steel Fabricator. Over the years, he immersed himself in various fabrication departments, honing his skills from frame building to moving floor trailer assembly. His dedication and leadership capabilities soon led him to team leader roles, as well as managing service and repairs. By the year 2000, Scott transitioned into an office role, where he primarily focused on purchasing and accounts. However, it was not long before he found himself deeply involved in sales and customer support, often traveling across the country to assist clients.

Scott was known for packing his welding helmet and taking on challenges in difficult conditions—whether it was welding inside a waste bin in Cairns or working in a corrugated iron igloo in Rockhampton. Despite modestly stating that he is not an expert, Scott possesses a broad understanding of semi-trailers and the many facets of the industry. Among his notable accomplishments, he takes pride in his time as Managing Director and his contributions to important projects.

Scott played a pivotal role in the development of the moving floor trailers and the introduction of the industry-first ultra-low skid plate known as the Texan. He is also proud of having led the recruitment of skilled staff from the Philippines around 13 years ago, with many of those individuals still thriving at Barker Trailers today.

Motivated by a desire for continuous product improvement and solving customer challenges, Scott is excited about the innovations emerging in both product design and manufacturing processes. He is currently undertaking training to enhance his skills as a member of the Board of Directors, further deepening his involvement in the company's strategic vision.

Scott enjoys sharing and discussing the rich history of Barker Trailers, particularly the stories revolving around his father’s relationships with customers and suppliers. He also has a keen interest in the current trends and solutions related to transporting waste using their moving floor trailers.

Looking ahead, Scott is focusing on engaging more with the industry, a direction that feels fresh and thrilling for him. He is eager to participate in substantive discussions that can help propel the company and the industry forward. It's also noteworthy that all four of Scott’s children have worked at Barker Trailers. His son, James, has made a significant impact as a team leader in their moving floor manufacturing department. This familial involvement adds a personal touch to the legacy of the Barker name, ensuring that the company’s values and vision continue to thrive across generations. Scott Barker is not just carrying on a family legacy; he is actively contributing to the evolution of Barker Trailers and the industry, one innovative solution at a time.
